It is not as simple to make a movie in Battlefield2 as you might think, and you will quite likely be tweaking for a few hours before you are done! Be very patient when it comes to the redering part - it takes a LOT of time! but still - it's quite cool to have your own movie - so enjoy :) |
- so let's get started |
Get the file here.
Make sure that the demos folder exists - C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\demos Start your Battelfield 2 in singleplayer(or multiplayer LAN - requires more than one player) When the game runs - hit the key for opening the console (on my Danish keyboard it's the ½ key) Now type: demo.recordDemo [demoname] Example: demo.recordDemo mydemo1 Type: demo.stopRecording to stop recording. Your demo is now recorded. ps. You cannot use demo.recorddemo in a multiplayer game on an Internetserver! |
Close Battlefield 2 if it is running. Open a command prompt in Windows, and go to the C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2 folder. Type: demo.cmd +c [demoname] [camerafile] Example: demo.cmd mydemo1 mydemo1 This starts Battlefield 2 and runs the demo, you now have several options for moving and zooming the camera. Q Show the menu - where the below options can be selected with the mouse. T Menu 1 Pause 2 Normal speed 3 5% faster 4 25% faster 5 50% faster 6 Normal speed 7 150% faster 8 300% faster Space Cycle through players Right clickFree camera - not attached to a player W,A,S,D, Shift and CTRL Move camera. (Zooms more smoothly than the mousewheel) Use the mouse to move the came around, scrollmouse to zoom in and out. When the demo ends, quit battlefield and return to the command prompt Both the demo file itself and the camera file is located in the C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\demos folder. |
Rendering the movie |
This step is most likely going to test your patiense :) - a short demo can take 30minutes or more to render! Battlefield2 will output an AVI file when this step is done and it's saved in the \demos folder. In the commandprompmt type: demo.cmd +r [demofile] [camerafile] Example: demo.cmd +r mydemo1 mydemo1 When Battlefield2 is finished loading the demo, a window pops up behind the game window, so you might have to TAB into windows to see it. If the status line on the bottom load screen shows "Loading complete - verifying..." - tab into windows, and you will se this window: ![]() If you have all the time in the world, and several GB available - choose "Full frames" - else use another Codec, like "XviD" or "divX" :) I use the XviD Codec ![]() Tweak the Configure button to meet your needs. Hit the OK button, and TAB back into Battlefield - click the "Join Game" button - and WAIT for a long time while your demo is redered.. If you wish to stop redering - hit the R key and the demo speeds up towards the end, hit the Q button to quit. The finished movie resides in the \demos folder with the other files - add some cool music in eg. MovieMaker and you are ready to go.. Congrats - you movie is now ready for the world to admire :) |
